It has a starting price of just $26,800 MSRP. The larger and more powerful Sierra is a bit more pricey, with a starting MSRP of $29,700 MSRP. 

Canyon vs. Sierra: Performance 

Next, we’ll move on to performance. Once again, the two pickups have their own unique set of benefits. 

  • Base Engine: A 200-hp 2.5L 4-cylinder comes standard on the GMC Canyon. The Sierra has a more powerful starting engine – the standard 285-hp 4.3L V6 engine.
  • Highest Power: At most, the Canyon delivers 308-hp from its 3.6L V6. The Sierra maxes out at 420 hp from its 6.2L V8. 
  • Diesel Option: A diesel option is available no matter which model you select. The Canyon can be equipped with a 2.8L Duramax Diesel with 369 lb-ft. The Sierra gives you a choice of a 3.0L Turbo Diesel that generates 460 lb-ft.
